Georgetown Women's Swimmers Open Season at Potomac Relays on Friday Afternoon

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's swimming and diving team will open its season at the Potomac Relays when they begin on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m., with the swimming portion taking place at the Reeves Aquatic Center and the diving portion of the meet being hosted at McCarthy Pool at Georgetown.

Georgetown will compete against Mary Washington, Mount St. Mary's and host American University.

The Hoyas' women return to action for the first time since last season's ninth place finish at the 2012 BIG EAST tournament. Junior Lauren Opatrny (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga), a BIG EAST finalist, highlights a strong returning group. Opatrny set five different Georgetown program records last season. Senior Amy Ballanfant (Houston, Texas/M.B. Lamar) holds three different program records, while senior Sarah Chiles (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) holds two entering their final season on the Hilltop.

The women's swim team also welcomes nine freshmen into the fold, who are expected to contribute during the 2012-13 season.

Friday's Meet Schedule:

Friday's meet will feature nine events in the following order:
- 200 Medley Relay
- 800 Freestyle Relay (4 x 200)
- 3 x 100 Butterfly Relay
- 3 x 100 Backstroke Relay
- 3 x 100 Breaststroke Relay
- 500 Freestyle Relay (50-100-150-200)
- 4 x 100 IM Relay
- 1000 Freestyle Relay (2 x 500)
- 200 Freestyle Relay

There will be both an "A" heat and a "B" heat for all relays (except for the 2 x 500 Relay, where there will only be an "A" Heat. The "B" heat will always precede the "A" heat. Scoring will be for "A" relays only and will be as follows: 14-10-8-6-2-1. Individuals may swim up to four relays. The diving portion of the event will take place on Georgetown's campus.
