WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team will open its home schedule when the Hoyas meet East Carolina University in a dual meet at McCarthy Pool at Yates Fieldhouse at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The meet is the first of two for the Hoyas this weekend, as they host George Washington and BIG EAST Conference rival Providence College at 11 a.m. on Saturday. East Carolina's men's team enter the match at 2-1, while the Pirate women are a perfect 4-0 after sweeping a dual meet against Davidson last Friday. On Saturday, the Hoyas will see George Washington for the first time this season. The Hoyas and Colonials were supposed to meet during the Potomac Relays before the Hoyas were forced to withdrawal. Providence, who fell in a dual meet to Lehigh University to open the season, will come to McCarthy Pool after swimming at American University one day prior. For the Hoyas it will be an opportunity to capture a BIG EAST Conference dual meet for the first time since they defeated the Friars on January 28, 2002. In the Hoyas first double-dual meet of the season with James Madison University and Virginia Military Institute, the Blue & Gray made 15 BIG EAST qualifying times, three times that moved into the school's all-time top ten list and one freshman record. Senior Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) posted qualifying times in the 100 yard backstroke and the 200 yard backstroke and sophomore Mallory Kiplinger (Darien, Conn.) posted qualifying times in the 200 yard freestyle, 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle. Freshman Victor Lopez-Cantera was one of four freshmen to record qualifying times in the Hoyas first meet, winning the 100 yard butterfly in 52.50, the fifth fastest time in school history. He also set a freshman team record in the 200 yard butterfly (1:56.32).
