Carbone Named BIG EAST Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week

Nov. 7, 2017

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University swimming & diving freshman Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass./Central Catholic) has been named the BIG EAST Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. The award recognizes Carbone’s performance last weekend at the Rutgers Penta Meet.

Swimming against BIG EAST foes Villanova and Seton Hall, as well as ACC opponent Pittsburgh, Carbone placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.00), third in the 100-yard backstroke (51.06) and fourth in the 200-yard IM (1:54.54). His 200-IM time was the fastest this season in the BIG EAST, while his time in the 200-yard backstroke was the second fastest and his time in the 100-yard backstroke was the third fastest in the conference this season. Carbone was also part of three relays that finished in the top five against a very talented field.

With the help of Carbone, the Hoya men overcame a seven-point deficit following the first day of competition to come back and defeat Seton Hall, the defending BIG EAST champions, 183-168. The Blue & Gray also beat fellow BIG EAST rival Villanova, 210.50-142.50.

Georgetown returns to action in two weeks when it closes out its fall schedule at the three-day Bucknell Invite. Racing will take place at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium.
