WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team dropped the series finale, 10-5, to Davidson College on Sunday afternoon. The game was played at Davidson’s Wilson Field. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 0-6 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 6-1.
Owen Lamon (Herndon, Va./Oakton) started on the mound and went 4.0 innings, allowing five runs on four hits, while striking out four. Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla./Venice) pitched two innings, striking out three. Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) fired 1.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout and Beau Dana (Marblehead, Mass./Deerfield Academy) made his collegiate debut, firing 0.1 innings.
Richie O’Reilly (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Loyola HS) led the offense with a pair of hits, including his first career home run, and tied a career high with three RBIs. James Gabor (Wyndmoor, Pa./William Penn Charter School) also had two hits.
Davidson got on the board with a solo home run in the first inning and added a run in the second on a pair of two-out hits to take a 2-0 lead.
The Hoyas cut the deficit in half in the top of the third inning when O’Reilly hit his first career home run, a solo shot over the left field fence, to make it a 2-1 game.
After a three-run homer extended Davidson’s lead to 5-1, GU came back with a four-run top of the fourth to tie the game. With one out, Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) and Sammy Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) hit consecutive doubles, the latter driving in a run. A Freddy Achecar III (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett School) single put runners on the corners before Stevens scored on a sacrifice fly by John Simourian (Andover, Mass./Phillips Andover). After a double by Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) put two in scoring position, an O’Reilly single plated two more runs to even the score, 5-5.
The Wildcats retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as they plated five runs, including a grand slam, to go up, 10-5.
Georgetown put runners on in each of the seventh and eighth innings, but could not cut into the deficit anymore.
The Hoyas will return to the DMV for a midweek matchup at George Washington on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. at GW's Barcroft Park in Arlington, Virginia.
