Freshman Throws Five Innings, Georgetown Beats Chicago State, 8-5

Freshman right-handed pitcher Jordan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./New Trier/Lawrenceville) threw five innings and senior center fielder Justin Leeson (Exton, Pa./West Chester) drove in three runs as Georgetown scored five runs in the first three innings en route to an 8-5 win over Chicago State at North Charlotte Park in Port Charlotte, Fla. at the Snowbird Classic on Friday.
Georgetown improved to 5-2 on its Florida trip with the win and is 7-5 overall.
Chudacoff threw five innings and picked up his first collegiate win, allowing two earned runs on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Chicago State scored three runs in 1.2 innings against sophomore Patrick Camporini (Safety Harbor, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic), but they were shut down by freshman Tim Davis (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and senior reliever Charles Steinman (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade) in the final 2.1 innings.
Georgetown jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when sophomore second baseman Ryan Busch (Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville Area) was hit by a pitch, stole second, moved to third on a groundout from senior third baseman Trevor Matern (Santa Clarita, Calif./Hart) and scored on a passed ball.
Trailing 2-1 in the third, the Hoyas took the lead for good with four runs. Junior outfielder Justin Abbott (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) hit a leadoff double and was on second after Matern was hit by a pitch. Leeson followed with a double to right driving in both runs and giving GU a 3-2 lead. Junior first baseman Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) hit an RBI single to score Leeson and a double from senior second baseman Danny Poplawski (Bellevue, Wash./The Overlake School) brought in Anderson, making it 5-2.
The Hoyas pushed the lead to 8-2 with a three-run sixth inning. Junior Christian Venditti (Newtonville, Mass./St. Sebastian's) and Abbot each hit RBI singles and a sacrifice fly from Leeson closed out the scoring.
