Thomas Polus Tosses Seven Shutout Innings in Hoyas 3-0 Win Over Princeton

BETHESDA, Md. - BETHESDA, Md. - Senior LHP Thomas Polus (Crown Point, Ind./Andrean) shut down Princeton through seven innings and junior right fielder Christian Venditti (Newtonville, Mass./Saint John's/Phillips Exeter) hit a two-run home run to lead the Georgetown University baseball team (11-6) past Princeton (1-9), 3-0 in game two of a doubleheader at Shirley Povich Field on Friday afternoon.
Polus tossed 7.0 innings of four-hit shutout ball, striking out six, to earn his second win of the season. Venditti went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, while Senior 3B Trevor Matern (Santa Clarita, Calif./Hart) went 1-for-2 with an RBI single to help the Hoyas sweep the doubleheader.
Georgetown scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Justin Leeson drew a lead-off walk and eventually scored on Matern's single to left field to take a 1-0 lead.
The Hoyas would extend the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Danny Poplawski drew a lead-off walk, before Venditti homered over the left field fence for his fourth home run of the season, to take a 3-0 lead.
Georgetown closes out its three game series with Princeton on Sunday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
