The win improves Georgetown to 18-15 overall, while the Colonials fall to 17-16. It was the third win in four games this season against the Colonials. The 18th team win for the Hoyas also surpasses the team's season total from 2009.

The Hoyas staked Kirby to a 1-0 lead in the second when first baseman Dan Capeless (Centerville, Mass./Boston College H.S.) walked, stole second and scored when Elliott reached on an error.
The lead grew to 3-0 when GU added a pair of runs in the third after putting the first two runners of the inning on base. Freshman third baseman Danny Poplawski (Bellevue, Wash./The Overlake School) hit a leadoff single and moved to third on a double down the left field line from senior center fielder Tommy Lee (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac). A sacrifice fly from sophomore right fielder Rand Ravnaas (Fort Worth, Texas/All Saints Episcopal) drove in one run and after Lee stole third, a sacrifice fly from Cupelo made it 3-0.
In the fourth Cupelo pushed the lead to 6-0 when he hit a single up the middle with the bases loaded. Senior second baseman Chip Malt (Boston, Mass./Buckingham, Browne & Nichols) hit a single to start things, Poplawski was hit by a pitch and Lee walked. After Ravnaas was hit by a pitch to bring in Malt, Cupelo opened the game up with his two-run hit.
