WASHINGTON - Xavier scored 12 runs over the first five innings to defeat the Georgetown University baseball team, 17-2, on Thursday afternoon at Hayden Field in Cincinnati. Xavier opened the scored with two unearned runs in the bottom of the second. The Musketeers added a run in the third, four in the fourth and five in the fifth to open a 12-0 lead.

Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) got the Hoyas on the board in the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run to center field, cutting the deficit to 12-1. His fifth home run of the season, tying him for the team lead with Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), was the first hit of the game for Georgetown.

After Xavier scored five more runs in the bottom of the seventh, a pinch-hit RBI double by Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga), scoring Zach Racusin (Morristown, N.J./Salisbury School/Marist), capped the scoring in the top of the eighth.

The two teams will resume their three-game series on Friday. Originally scheduled for 3 p.m., the game has been moved up to noon due to impending weather later in the afternoon. Simon Mathews (West Haven, Conn./Hopkins School/Temple) will take the mound for the Blue & Gray. Live stats and an audio stream will be available at www.GUHoyas.com, and in-game updates can be found on the team's twitter account: @GtownBaseball.

Notes – With his run scored on Thursday, Kuzbel needs just one more run to become the sixth player in program history to be a member of the 200-hit, 100-RBI and 100-runs scored clubs.
