WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team dropped its season finale, 6-2, to Xavier on Saturday afternoon at Hayden Field in Cincinnati. With the loss, the Hoyas finished the season with a 27-28 overall record and a 4-14 mark in BIG EAST play, while the Musketeers improved to 29-25 overall and 10-6 in conference action.
Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla./Venice) made his first career start for the Hoyas, allowing four runs in three innings while striking out four. Noah Abdalla (Raleigh, N.C./Northern Highlands Regional [N.J.]) pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, while Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) fired two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Zach Racusin (Morristown, N.J./Salisbury School/Marist) and Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla./San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) each hit a solo home run to provide the offense. Eric Garza (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan/TCU/San Jacinto) added two hits.
After Xavier took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, Racusin tied things back up in the top of the third, lining a solo home run over the left field fence. It was the first career homer for the graduate student playing in his final collegiate game.
The Musketeers answered back with three runs in the bottom of the third to go up, 4-1. Weisenberg launched his team-leading sixth home run of the season in the top of the fourth to cut GU’s deficit to 4-2. It was Weisenberg’s second home run in as many days.
Xavier scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, off of Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn./St. Thomas Academy/IMG Academy) to complete the scoring.
Notes – With his four at-bats on Saturday, Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) set the program record with 748 career at-bats … The 27 wins this season tie for the third most in a single season and are the most by a Georgetown team since 1985.
