Georgetown Baseball Game at Navy Postponed Due to Rain

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball game scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 29 at Navy has been postponed due to inclement weather in the Washington, D.C. area.
The Hoyas will depart for their annual spring break trip on Thursday, March 1. The first game the team is scheduled to play is an exhibition against Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals, on Friday March 2 at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Fla. First pitch against the Nationals is slated for noon.
The matchup marks the second time the Hoyas and the Nationals will meet in an exhibition game. The Nationals also hosted Georgetown for an exhibition game on February 28, 2008, a 15-0 Washington win.
Tickets for the exhibition will cost $5 each, with all proceeds benefitting the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation.
Georgetown is off to a 6-2 start this season, aided by a 3-1 performance at the Wake Forest Invitational this past weekend, including an 11-6 win over BIG EAST rival Cincinnati.
Senior right-handed pitcher Will Harris (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) will start the game on Friday against the Nationals. Harris is 2-0 in two starts with a 4.30 earned run average. He has thrown 14.2 innings and allowed seven runs on 16 hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.
The offense has been led by senior right fielder Rand Ravnaas (Fort Worth, Texas/All Saints' Episcopal), who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second-straight week on Monday. In five games, Ravnaas batted .417 (10-for-24) with three doubles, one home run, six RBI, six runs scored and 16 total bases. He also stole a pair of bases.
Overall this season, Ravnaas is batting .472 (17-for-36) with five doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI, 28 total bases and four stolen bases. Ravnaas was named to the Honor Roll last week after batting .583 (7-for-12), with one home run, one double, five runs scored and five RBI in a series win at Charleston Southern.
Redshirt junior shortstop Mike Garza (San Antonio, Texas./Douglas MacArthur) has gotten off to a strong start, posting a .417 average (15-for-36), with four doubles, one home run and six RBI while scoring seven runs, and junior centerfielder Justin Leeson (Exton, Pa./West Chester) is batting .389 (14-for-36) with one double, one triple, one home run, five RBI, seven runs scored and a team-best five stolen bases.
Sophomore Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland), who has split time at first base and designated hitter and has started six of eight games, is batting with a .476 average (10-for-21). He has three doubles, one home run and five RBI, while junior Corbin Blakey (Alpharetta, Ga./Centennial), who has appeared in seven games, is batting .471 (8-for-17) with three doubles, one triple, one home run and six RBI.
Following the exhibition game against the Nationals, the Hoyas will spend the next eight days in Winter Haven, Fla., competing in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The first two games, on Saturday, March and Sunday, March 4, are against St. Bonaventure.
