WASHINGTON - Georgetown University baseball’s sophomore left-handed pitcher Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla./Venice) and freshman shortstop Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) have been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. The award recognizes their efforts in GU’s five games last week at the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Killiam appeared in two games for the Hoyas last week, pitching a total of 8.0 innings, allowing two runs for a 2.25 ERA on seven hits. He struck out five and walked none. After a 2.0-inning relief appearance on Tuesday where he struck out two, Killam made his first start of the season on Sunday versus Saint Joseph’s. He pitched 6.0 strong innings of one-run ball, allowing just five hits and zero walks to pick up the win. He tied a career high with five strikeouts, including striking out the side in the first inning.
McCabe, who has started all 14 games at shortstop as a freshman, batted .476 (10-for-21) last week, recording multi-hit performances in four of the five games. He had three hits in a 9-5 victory over Western Michigan on Wednesday, while also recording a double and two RBIs on Tuesday versus Northeastern and Saturday against Saint Joseph’s.
The Blue & Gray (2-12) will return to the DMV for its home opener on Wednesday against Coppin State. First pitch at Shirley Povich Field is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live stats and a subscription-based video stream will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
