WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team closes out the regular season this weekend when it hosts Seton Hall for a pivotal three-game BIG EAST Conference series at Shirley Povich Field. Thursday's and Friday's contest are scheduled for 7 p.m., while Saturday's series finale is set for 1 p.m. Links to live stats and a subscription-based video stream for all three games will be available on GUHoyas.com. The Hoyas head into the weekend needing just one win to clinch a berth in next week's BIG EAST Championship.

Baseball Falters in Series Finale at Seton Hall
The Georgetown University baseball team scored five runs over the final three innings, but could not complete the comeback, falling, 10-5, to Seton Hall University on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 21-18 overall and 0-6 in BIG EAST play, while the Pirates improve to 21-16 on the season, and 5-4 in conference action.

The Hoyas (25-26, 8-7 BIG EAST), who have currently won 13-consecutive games at Shirley Povich Field, are coming off of an 11-6 victory over UMBC on Tuesday night. Four different players had three hits, Alex Bernauer (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) had two home runs and GU used 11 extra-base hits to cruise to the victory. Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) finished a single short of the cycle, and scored three runs. Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS) and Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) each had three hits, including two doubles, while Bernstein added four RBIs to tie with Bernauer for the team lead. Owen Lamon (Herndon, Va./Oakton) pitched a career-high 6.1 innings, including five perfect frames to start the game, to pick up his fifth win of the year.

Senior pitcher Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for his efforts in Georgetown's five games last week. He made three appearances, recording all three saves in Georgetown's 3-2 week while not allowing a run and just one hit in 3.1 innings pitched. On Wednesday, Swad recorded the final two outs of GU's 7-5 win in the first game of a doubleheader against Maryland Eastern Shore before coming back on in the nightcap to pitch the final inning in a 7-6 victory, recording his second save of the day. In Sunday's series finale at Butler, Swad set Georgetown's single season record with his 12th save of the year, going 1.2 innings to lock up GU's 5-3 win.

For the season, Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) leads the Hoyas with a .326 (42-for-129) batting average. Bernstein is hitting .314 (58-for-185) while a career-high three home runs, while McCabe owns a .311 (60-for-193) batting average and has a team-leading 36 RBIs. Bernauer comes in with a .305 (40-for-131) average and leads GU with five home runs and four triples, while driving in 30 runs. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) is batting .304 (59-for-194) and ranks second in the BIG EAST with 18 stolen bases.

Seton Hall enters the weekend with a 25-18-1 overall record and an 11-4 mark in conference play, already clinching a spot in the BIG EAST Championship. The Pirates are hitting .263 as a team and are led by Rob Dadona (.320) and Ryan Ramiz (.319), while Casey Dana has a team-high five home runs. The pitching staff owns a 4.05 team ERA and opponents are hitting just .234 against the Pirates, but with 26 home runs.
