WASHINGTON - WASHINGTON - This past Saturday, the Georgetown University Baseball team volunteered to help organize one of the largest charitable events in the District at the American Heart Association's D.C. Heart-Walk.

Arriving at Nationals Stadium before the sun was in the sky, the Hoyas set up tents and folding tables all over the complex and in Southeast D.C.

After unpacking food and water for the individuals participating in the event, the Hoyas were able to interact with numerous survivors of many heart related illnesses as they walked along the designated path.

The players aided in facilitating the walk by helping those who were disabled and everyone involved was extremely thankful for their services.

Senior captain Andy Lentz (Farmington Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) said of the event: "It's definitely nice to be able to give back to the community and support such an amazing organization in the off-season. We get a lot of local fans at our games and there were certainly people that recognized us and what we were doing to help out. It really means a lot to our guys to get off the Hilltop and be a part of something that is much bigger than ourselves."

After the walk concluded, the players again aided the event's hosts to take down and pack up everything from the event before returning to campus Saturday afternoon.

This is the third consecutive year that the team has volunteered to help the American Heart Association, and the second year that it has been held at Nationals Park.

More than fifty sponsors anchored tents and helped to donate over 1.7 million dollars to the American Heart Association. Lockheed Martin led the way with $150,000 worth of charitable contributions.

The Hoyas continue their offseason workouts as they await February 1 and the start of their spring season.
