WASHINGTON – Georgetown Baseball Head Coach Pete Wilk has announced that current Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Baltimore Orioles, Dan Duquette, will serve as the keynote speakers for the 10th annual First Pitch Dinner.

The First Pitch Dinner will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Leo J. O'Donovan Dining Hall on the Hilltop. Cocktails and silent auction begin at 6:30 p.m., with dinner and events beginning at 7 p.m. The annual event celebrates the beginning of the 2014 Georgetown baseball season and honors the 2013 team and its seniors.

“We are thrilled to have Dan Duquette joining us for our annual First Pitch Dinner,” Wilk said. “He brings a wealth of baseball experience to our event along with a great story about perseverance and hard work.”

Duquette was named Baltimore’s Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations in 2011. In just his first season, he helped the Orioles end a streak of 14 consecutive losing seasons and made the playoffs for the first time since 1997.

He began his career in professional baseball in 1980 as a scouting assistant for the Milwaukee Brewers. In 1987, Duquette was named the director of player development for the Montreal Expos before being promoted to general manager in 1991. After three seasons, he was named to the same positions with the Boston Red Sox, a position he held for eight seasons until 2002.

Duquette has twice been honored as the Major League Baseball Executive of the Year – 1992 with the Expos and 1995 with the Red Sox.

Duquette joins a long list of baseball celebrities to have appeared at Georgetown’s First Pitch Dinner. Past speakers to have addressed the Hoyas include Terry Francona, Johnny Bench, Bruce Froemming, Tim Kurkjian, Jim Craig, Dave Winfield, Jamie Moyer and Larry Bowa as well as Tim Russert.
