Box Score

The Hoyas (16-9, 8-6) lost at home on 2/27/05 to #23 ranked Villanova (19-6, 9-5) by a score of 56-67. The sellout crowd of 11,770 and those watching on television saw the Wildcats break the log jam for fourth place in the BIG EAST standings. Brandon Bowman led all scorers with 22 points while Jonathan Wallace and Jeff Green paced Georgetown's rebounding with 6 boards each.

Georgetown got off to a slow start, only scoring 11 points in the first 18:19. Although a pair of treys in the final 1:41 of the first frame cut Villanova?s edge to 12, it was still too deep a hole for the Hoyas to escape in 20 minutes. In the opening half GU shot 28% and allowed Nova to shoot 44.4%. Georgetown trailed in rebounding 16-19.

In the second frame Georgetown came out scoring. Cutting the Cats' edge to 6 (31-37) in the first 4:12 seemed to indicate that the comeback was well underway, but Villanova had the edge up to 15 at the 12:08 mark. A 7-0 Georgetown run was answered by 6-0 Villanova run and each time the Hoyas seemed poised to build some momentum, the Wildcats found an answer. GU had the deficit down to 6 with 57 seconds on the clock, but in the late going the Wildcats made 8 consecutive free throws for the 56-67 final.

The Hoyas hit their outside shots, particularly in the second half where they were 8-15 (53.3%). Villanova scored 12 more points from the sin stripe and won the battle of the boards 41-31.
