Georgetown (16-10, 8-7) lost on the road to the #15th ranked Huskies of Connecticut (20-6, 12-3) on 3/2/05 by a score of 64-83. The big men led the way in this one as Jeff Green scored 17 and had 6 boards while Roy Hibbert scored 12 and grabbed 8 caroms.
The Hoyas opened strong and had the score knotted at 21 through the first ten minutes. With 03:20 on the clock GU was down by 4 but still very much in it. Then the wheels came off as the Huskies launched a frenetic 17-2 run to leave a frustrated Hoya squad on the wrong end of a 26-41 halftime score. For the half the Hoyas shot 39.1% to Connecticut?s 69.6%. Georgetown had 2 more steals and 1 fewer turnovers than the home team but they also had 10 fewer rebounds.
Coach Thompson used every combination imaginable to answer the Huskies in the second half. The Hoyas scored 29 points off the bench to UConn?s 11 as Tyler Crawford hit 4 of 5 and Sead Dizdarevic was 2 for 2, but the Huskies were determined to get their coach his 700th win and shot 46.4% to the Hoyas? 46.7%. The homestanding Huskies also enjoyed 17 more free throw opportunities than the visitors and scored 12 more points from the stripe than the Hoyas.
