Box Score

March 5, 2005

The Hoyas (16-11, 8-8) closed out the 2004-05 regular season with a heartbreaker on 03/05/05, losing at home to Providence (14-16, 4-12) by a score of 65-68. Brandon Bowman led Georgetown's scoring with 19 and rebounding with 5. Despite being limited by whistles to 23 minutes, Jeff Green added 15 points. Ashanti Cook contributed 12 tallies and dished out 5 assists.

The first frame saw 3 ties and 7 lead changes as the Hoyas and Friars kept each other in check. GU forced 5 more turnovers and hit 3 more treys, but Providence dominated the glass 24-5. The visitors were also treated to 8 more opportunities at the sin stripe and outscored their hosts 8-1 from the line. At intermission the Hoyas trailed 33-36.

In the second stanza the Hoyas improved their shooting from 51.9% to 60%. They hit 50% of their three point attempts (4-8) and held the Friars to 40.7% shooting. Unfortunately they did not reverse the rebounding disparity and were still out boarded 10-14. There were 8 ties, 5 lead changes and PC's first half edge of 6 was as big as the difference between the teams got. With 32 seconds remaining the score was tied at 65, but Gomes managed the hoop and the harm in the closing ticks and when he hit his free throw the Hoyas had to rush a desperation heave at the buzzer.

The Hoyas finished the BIG EAST regular season 8-8 and in 7th place in the BIG EAST Tournament. They will play on Wednesday night at 7:00 vs Seton Hall.
