In the quarterfinals of the NIT, the Hoyas will take on the University of South Carolina (17-13) on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Colonial Center in Columbia, South Carolina at 7:30 pm.

Game Recap

Georgetown (19-12) defeated Cal State Fullerton (21-11) 74-57 in the second round of the NIT. The home crowd was raucous for this post season game on Georgetown's campus and the team drew energy from the fans. Brandon Bowman paced all scorers with 19 points. He also had 6 rebounds 3 assists and 2 blocks. Jeff Green contributed 18 points, 3 assists, 2 boards and 6 blocks before fouling out. Jonathan Wallace added 12 tallies, 3 boards and 3 steals. Darrel Owens rounded out the Hoya quartet of double figure scorers with 11 points. Guard Ashanti Cook led the team in rebounding with 10 boards and missed a double double by a single point. Ashanti also had 6 assists, a block and a steal.

It was a see-saw battle through the first 10 minutes, but a 9-0 run ending at 06:24 began to turn the tide. Although the Titans cut their deficit back to 5 with 03:14 remaining, the Hoyas turned the heat back up and led by 11 at intermission. For the half the Hoyas shot 56.7% while holding the Titans to 30.3%. Rebounds were even at 19 and turnovers were deadlocked at 7.

In the second frame the Hoyas simply could not put the Titans away. After building their lead to 16 they watched it slide back to 11, ditto when they were up by 18. Encouraged by the crowd the Hoyas capitalized on Cal Satate's errors and won by 17, 74-57. For the game the Hoyas shot 54.9% and Cal State Fullerton shot 28.8%. Georgetown lost the battle of the boards 34-40, but made 10 of 23 treys (43.5%).
