WASHINGTON - Junior guard Jason Clark (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) recorded his first career double-double to lead two players in double figures as the No. 20-ranked Georgetown University men's basketball team hit 12 three-pointers in a 69-53 win over Tulane in front of 10,013 fans at Verizon Center Monday night. It was the second-straight win to start the season for the Hoyas, who are now 2-0 overall, while Tulane falls to 1-1.

Clark scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds to lead the Blue & Gray, adding five steals in the process. He was joined in double figures by senior guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha), who scored 23 points, hitting 9-of-15 shots from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point land. Senior guard Chris Wright (Bowie, Md./St. John's College H.S.) chipped in seven points and tied a career-high with eight assists.

The Hoyas attempted 29 three-pointers - five away from the school record - and made 12, tied for the fourth-best single game mark in school history.

"There was a stretch there where I told them, 'We're taking too many,' but then I thought about it and Tulane made a concerted effort; that's what they were going to give us," Head Coach John Thompson III said. "They clogged everything up when we threw it down and said, 'We're going to let you take shots and see if you can make them.' I'm comfortable with that because I think we have guys that can make them."

And early in the game, Georgetown was hitting just about everything. The Hoyas hit eight three-pointers in the first 15 minutes of the game - with Freeman connecting on three of them and Clark and sophomore forward Hollis Thompson (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) hitting two each - as an 8-6 advantage in the opening minutes turned into a 32-12 lead on a trifecta from Clark with 6:58 left to play in the half.

Tulane out-scored Georgetown 10-2 over the final 5:22 of the first half and pulled to within 12 points, 34-22, on a three-pointer from Kris Richard.

The Hoyas struggled from the field to start the second half - hitting only one of their first six shots - and the Green Wave used a 5-2 spurt over the opening 3:36 to pull within nine points, 36-27, on a jumper from Kendall Timmons.

Georgetown responded with a 17-3 run over 4:56 started by Freeman who, for the second-straight game, converted a four-point play. The three-pointer plus the free throw gave GU a 40-27 lead and Clark scored seven points during the run as a layup from freshman forward Nate Lubick (Southboro, Mass./St. Marks) gave the Hoyas a 53-30 lead with 11:14 to play.

The biggest lead for the Hoyas was 24 points, 56-32, on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Vee Sanford (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) with 9:42 to play in the game.

The Hoyas connected on 48.1 percent of their shots from the field (26-of-54), hit 41.4 percent (12-of-29) from three-point land and hit 50 percent of their free throws (5-of-10). GU held a 34-30 advantage on the boards, the team handed out 16 assists and committed 14 turnovers with two blocks and 12 steals.

Thompson added eight points and five rebounds, while junior center Henry Sims (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph's) added two points, five rebounds and two assists.

Georgetown will hit the road again this week, traveling South to play in the Charleston Classic, beginning on Thursday, Nov. 18 against Coastal Carolina. Tipoff is slated for noon and the game will be shown live on MASN and can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
