Box Score

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP)--Sophomore guard Chris Wright (Bowie, Md./St. John's College H.S.) scored 18 points and junior forward DaJuan Summers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) added 17 points to lead four players in double figures, but it was not enough for No. 21 Georgetown in a 90-78 loss to No. 12 Tennessee in a semifinal game of the Old Spice Classic at the Milk House at Disney World Friday afternoon.

The loss is the first of the season for the Hoyas, who fall to 3-1 overall, while Tennessee improves to 5-0. Georgetown will play the loser of a game between Maryland and Gonzaga on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

Georgetown used a 17-4 run to take a 56-49 lead near the mid-point of the second half and extended the margin to eight points, 63-55, on a layup from Wright with 10:06 to play. A layup from freshman center Greg Monroe (New Orleans, La./Helen Cox) kept the margin at eight points, 65-57, but the Volunteers used a 10-1 run over 3:19 and took a 67-66 lead on a three-pointer from Cameron Tatum with 5:56 to play.

Monroe hit a free throw tie the game at 67-all, but the Vols used a decisive 13-4 run over 3:35, with Tatum hitting three three-pointers and scoring 11 points, as UT took an 80-71 lead with 1:59 to play.

Georgetown pulled to within 83-76 after sophomore guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) hit two free throws and a layup, but the Volunteers hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute to seal the win.

The Hoyas trailed by two points (39-37) at the break, but the Vols out-scored them 6-2 to start the half and took a 45-39 lead on a free throw from Bobby Maze. GU responded and used a 9-3 burst to take a 48-47 lead on a pair of free throws from Freeman. That was part of a 17-4 Hoya run over 5:52 as GU went from trailing by six points to taking a seven-point lead, 56-49, on a tip from Monroe with 12:53 to play.

It was a game of runs in the first half. The Hoyas scored the first five points of the game, first on a thunderous dunk from Monroe and then on a three-pointer from Summers. After Tennessee took a 6-5 lead, the Hoyas responded with a 9-0 run over 1:17, taking a 14-6 lead on a Monroe layup.

The Vols tied the game at 14-all on a jumper from Prince and GU responded with a 7-2 spurt over 2:43, taking a 21-16 lead on a three from freshman guard Jason Clark (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell). Tennessee, however, used a 14-2 run over a span of 5:29 and took its biggest lead, 30-23, on a dunk from Emmanuel Negedu with 5:56 to play. Georgetown again responded, this time using a 10-2 run over 2:45 to take a 33-32 lead on a three-pointer from Wattad with 3:11 to play in the half.

The lead changed hands twice in the next two possessions, with the Hoyas holding a 35-34 lead on a Freeman jumper with 1:59 to play. The Vols led by four points, 39-35, when Sapp was fouled with one second left; he hit both shots to make it 39-37 at halftime.

The Hoyas shot 53.1 percent from the floor (26-of-49), hit 38.9 percent from three-point land (7-of-18) and were 73.1 percent from the free throw line (19-of-26). The Volunteers held a 33-26 advantage, while the Hoyas had 14 assists and committed 20 turnovers.

Wright hit 6-of-12 shots and finished with 18 points, while Summers added 17 points and three rebounds. Monroe scored 15 points and grabbed three rebounds, while Freeman added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.
