Head Coach John Thompson III

On worrying if the game with IUPUI would be a trap game...
I don't know that there are trap games, it's cute to talk about and cute to write, but every game is special. I said this to the group a couple weeks ago, there are only a finite amount of games you can play with this group of guys, so I don't think you look at it as a trap game.

On IUPUI...
You have to give them credit, I think they came out and executed and got what they wanted in the first half. It was like we were stuck in mud with a lot of our defensive rotations and they were getting easy shots. That's not what we've been about, that's not who we are, but you have to give them credit because they came out and executed.

On responding in the second half...
Our guys ramped it up a little bit. You look at Nate with 14 rebounds and Hollis with 10 and that's good. They're capable of doing that and now we're going to expect them to do that more often. A lot of times, so many people, because of what you guys write, define people by baskets and points made, but there are so many other ways whether it's how you're guarding someone, whether you're aggressive on defense, whether you're rebounding, whether you're making a good pass, whether you're setting good screens, whether you're communicating on defense, there are so many ways that you can have a positive impact on a game.

On the difference in the defense against Alex Young between the first and second half...
I think we just became a little more attentive. I've said this before, defensively you can talk about strategies, but at the end of the day you just have to have a little bit of pride. Young is a terrific player and he had a terrific first half, but I was glad to see our guys have a hand in him not having as good a second half.

On the improved transition offense in the second half...
You talk about the fast break offense, we weren't getting enough stops or rebounds to start talking about our transition offense. Once we got stops and rebounds then we do want to get out. Was I pleased with it? Absolutely, but I was more pleased with what led to our transition offense.

On Hollis Thompson...
The one thing that I'm most pleased with Hollis, and not just today, Hollis can shoot, he can really shoot. But other parts of the game, be it defense, be it rebounding, I think his communication with his teammates is at a much higher level than it was in previous years and so he is able to do so everything on the court well and now he just needs to continue to take pride in all aspects of the game.

IUPUI Coach Todd Howard Quotes

Opening Statement...
"Well I think, we were very pleased obviously with the first half. We really worked our game plan to I think to a "t". I thought we chopped the game up whether it was via subbing or changing defenses and you know we got on a little roll and made some shots that can definitely make up for our variety of ills. But knowing the team that they are and the high that they are on, I think they are playing as well as anybody right now mainly because of their precision. Certainly that is a staple here but to be in November and even coming back from Maui that's a testament to them. ...I thought they played well and you know when you play these types of games you hope they're off a little bit or you know still thinking on Maui time and thinking about all that stuff.

...Certainly a great effort by them. I just thought early in the second half, I think it was 14-4, that little run that unraveled, you know, miss a free throw, miss a block out, make a costly turnover there were just a couple things playing... quality Big East team you can't unravel three or four possessions. You need four or five good possessions and that was kind of our down fall and then they had a rhythm and they were able to play down hill we enjoyed it seemed they were playing uphill the whole first half and I thought we played accordingly. We were kind of at ease and made the extra pass and I thought we did a great job on offense." On Georgetown's 14-4 Run in the Second Half...

"You cannot necessarily win a game in the first four or five minutes of a half but I think you can lose a game. We haven't been getting off to great starts so tonight I thought in this environment I thought we really answered the bell but the second half, that little unraveling and then its fouls and then its foul trouble and then it's a miss and then it's a block out you know it's the way it goes."

On the Struggling Performance of Alex Young...
" (Alex young was) forcing it a little bit. Missed a couple (of shots) that you know were good looks. I thought it was just in the flow of unraveling. I think he played his butt off the first half and really attacked on the glass. It was just a matter of couldn't get out on transition, could get a stop, couldn't get going with the ball long enough, because we got rattle because we gave up an offensive rebound that makes him kind of easy to find so to speak."
