Georgetown vs. Howard :: Post-Game Quotes

Head Coach John Thompson III

On switching defenses and throwing Howard out of sync ...
I think it was effective in that we were able to create some turnovers and then able to score some baskets.

On Howard's comeback after GU took a 17-0 lead ...
It would be easy to stand here and come up with a bunch of excuses to what happened, but I don't want to take away from what Coach Nickleberry and his guys did. They outplayed us today.

On Tyler Adams...
It's a huge level of concern, because it's his heart, it's his health. At this point I don't have too much more information than what was in the press release.

On when the issue first presented itself...
It was the other day, Tuesday or Wednesday, he said he wasn't feeling well. Our trainer took him right to the hospital, so we'll see what happens. I don't know what indefinite means, so we'll see. Him getting on the basketball court is irrelevant right now, if it doesn't we just want to make sure he's ok, that's first and foremost.

Junior forward Hollis Thompson

On what was missing from the team today...
I think, like Coach said, they came out they played hard and did a good job of doing what they wanted to do against us.

Senior guard Jason Clark

On if they felt their Top 25 ranking put a target on their back for the game with Howard... Coach told us before, this is their biggest game of the season, so we knew they were going to compete with us and they did. They just played harder than us today.

Howard Coach Kevin Nickelberry

Opening Statement...
"It's been that way all year for us. I mean we've been able to compete every game. We have young players. We have 7 freshmen; a lot of them play a lot of minutes for us. We've done a good job of dealing with adversity all year. We were up double digits against Old Dominion, up 20 against Rider, down 15 to American and took the lead. We've been able to come back and put ourselves into position every game and it really comes down to can we close, make shots down the stretch, execute down the stretch, close the game out but were young and got some kids that fight, which is a good thing."

On Simuel Frazier Performance...
"He's a talented freshman. He knows how to get people the basketball. He did a good job getting Phillips some shots in the second half, controlling tempo, so he does a good job running the team. He's got to take care of the ball down the stretch, which will come with time but you know I told him in the middle of the second half you got to get the guys the ball and he said Coach, "I got four freshman with me out here" and I said, "Yeah, you're right so take the ball and make a play". The guys need to keep playing, and keep learning each other and keep sharing the basketball..."

On Georgetown's Defensive Pressure...
"It's good coaching. John (Thompson III) did a great job, went full court pressing. We hadn't seen that on tape yet. It's been a 1-2-2 most of the year, so we hadn't really worked on that. He went and full court pressed us, which was something different so we had to...adjust. By the time we adjusted it was too late. Being down 17 - nothing that was the last thing we were thinking about at halftime was their full court press."
