WASHINGTON - Sophomore forward Otto Porter Jr. (Morley, Mo./Scott County Central) scored a career-high 22 points and had a career-best seven assists as No. 15 Georgetown forced 30 turnovers from Longwood en route to an 89-53 win at Verizon Center Monday night.

It was the fifth-straight win for the Hoyas, who improved to 8-1 overall, while the Lancers fell to 2-7. Georgetown was ranked No. 15 in the country for the second-straight week in the latest Associated Press poll and moved up to No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches' poll.

Porter Jr. connected on 8-of-11 shots from the field and hit 6-of-8 free throws, with a career-high seven assists, four rebounds and four steals, while junior guard Markel Starks (Accokeek, Md./Georgetown Prep) scored 17 points, including 4-of-5 from three-point land, and had three assists. Junior forward Nate Lubick (Southborough, Mass./St. Marks) added six points, four rebounds, a career-high seven assists and had two steals.

Eleven Georgetown players scored at least four points as the Hoyas connected on 53.7 percent of their field goals (36-of-67) and handed out a season-high 25 assists. The Georgetown defense limited Longwood to only 53 points, the seventh time this season the team has held an opponent below 60 points. The Hoyas also forced 30 turnovers, the most under ninth-year Head Coach John Thompson III and the most by an opponent since Elon committed 32 during the 2002-03 season.

Georgetown's 89 points were a season-high and the most since the Hoyas scored 91 against Memphis in a 91-88 overtime win last year in the Maui Classic.

The Hoyas opened up a 16-point lead (40-24) at halftime and used a 17-5 run over the opening four minutes of the second half to take a 57-29 lead on a dunk from sophomore forward Greg Whittington (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills).

Georgetown opened up a 16-point halftime lead (40-24) after connecting on 51.6 percent of its field goals, with 14 assists on 16 field goals. A layup from Longwood's Michael Kressens made it 11-6 at the first media timeout of the game (14:57), but a 9-4 spurt capped by a three-pointer from Starks gave the Hoyas a 20-10 lead with 8:45 remaining before the break.

The Hoyas then used an 18-8 run over a span of 5:47 to take a 38-18 lead on a Starks three-pointer with 2:48 to play in the half.

Georgetown will return to Verizon Center this Saturday, December 15, as they take on Western Carolina. Tip-off time is set for noon, and the game will be shown live on MASN.
