WASHINGTON (AP) - Brandon Bowman had 18 points, seven rebounds and three blocks Thursday to lead Georgetown to a 79-56 victory over crosstown rival Howard.

Freshman center Roy Hibbert added 12 points and three blocks for the Hoyas (8-3), who shot 65 percent in the second half and 60 percent for the game.

Will Gant scored 18 points, and Cliffone Ault had 11 to lead the Bison (4-6), who shot just 31 percent and have lost all six meetings against Georgetown by an average of 29 points.

Georgetown has never lost to a team from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, although Hoyas were taken to overtime by Norfolk State on Tuesday.

Both teams sputtered most of the first half, with Howard starting 2-for-19 from the field and Georgetown going 5-for-13. The score was just 14-6 after 11 minutes, and Hoyas freshman forward Jeff Green was on the bench quickly with three fouls.

Georgetown began to take control with back-to-back alley-oop dunks by Bowman late in the half. The Hoyas closed the half with a 15-5 run to lead 33-16 at the break.

Howard made just 5 of 33 shots in the first half, including 1 of 10 3-pointers. Ault was for 1-for-8, and the Bison had eight shots blocked. Georgetown had only one basket in the half that wasn't either a dunk, layup or 3-pointer.

The Bison didn't get closer than 16 points in the second half.
