Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III

On if today's game was a letdown despite the win ...
No, not at all. I think this team has the ability, maybe more so than in the last couple of years, to win a "pretty" game or win when it gets ugly. This was an ugly game. We went through a stretch when we weren't scoring, so we just have to figure out how to get stops and get rebounds. You see that Jason (Clark) had eight rebounds, Otto (Porter) had 12 and Otto's were all key.

On the team's poor shooting performance...
You're not always going to shoot well. What happened to us today is earlier, I thought we were taking too many long shots in the second half we tried to focus on throwing it inside and we were pounding it in, but it felt like there was a lid on the basket. A lot of the shots that Henry (Sims) missed today, I don't think he's going to miss. Even when he kicked it back out a lot of our guys, Hollis in particular missed some shots that I don't think he's going to miss. You have to give Providence credit for their defense.

On Otto Porter's rebounding...
Otto made the plays that you have to make to win games and it was glaring today. It's easy to focus on who made what shot or who made what pass, but all the little thing that comes with winning, he has been very good at those things. You have to do those things to have success in this league and to win when your shot is not falling.

On Henry Sims performance...
There were a couple shots that were bad shots, bad only in that they have a good possession then we come down and boom one pass and one shot without making them work a little bit. A lot of the shots that Henry got today, I thought he made decent moves he got the looks, he got the shots that he usually makes and that he will make, but the ball just didn't go in.

On what winning ugly says about this team...
With this group, all we're concerned with is accumulating wins. Some nights it's going to be pretty, a lot of nights in this league it's not going to be pretty. I think we have to continue to grow and more people have to get more involved in doing the things that make you win is not just putting the ball in the basket. It's the deflections, it's the rebounds, it's the communication on defense, the attentiveness when we need to be attentive, so I think we have done a decent job of this year and that's what determines who wins and loses. Systems go out the window and it becomes who is going to make the basketball play.

Jason Clark
On winning this game following win at Louisville Wednesday...
"We feel good getting two Big East games under our belt. It's important to just keep getting wins, no matter what.

On his rebounding...
I've been working on getting rebounds, especially as the game gets tight. The most important thing is just getting stops and rebounds, and that's what kept us in the game.

Otto Porter
On his rebounding...
"I think that rebounds are always important when it comes down to holding our ground in close games."

On the importance of conference play...
"Now that conference play has started, I'm trying to be more consistent since the games are getting more competitive."

Henry Sims
On shots falling for him late in the game...
"It's always tough getting shots off against Big East teams. When my shots aren't falling, it's especially important that I contribute with getting my teammates involved and helping defensively."

Providence Head Coach Ed Cooley
"This was the first time, I think, as the head coach at Providence that we had a complete 40 minutes of effort and Georgetown's a very very good basketball team. John does a phenomenal job, his kids are long, they're athletic, they're disciplined, very well coached team. You know, when you're building a program and you've got games in your hand I thought we had momentum in this game for probably the second twenty minutes of this game, I thought a lot of it played into our hands, it'hs just you know when you are limited on depth and limited in certain areas you're gonna come up short in some game, it was right there. What I told my team in the locker room is that we have to learn how to win, we gotta face adversity, I thought we had stops but second shots under four minutes really hurt us. They was a stretch where 8 of their last 10 points before the last 2 layup were off second shots and if we can be detailed and physical enough to get one and done our programs gonna grow. I'm very proud of our group, I am, I am very proud of our group, the progress we've made from the other night to tonight. We've play, I think, one of the best teams in the country. Georgetown's winning a lot of basketball games and Providence going to continue to grow. Can't put our head down, got another tough game again on Wednesday hopefully our young men will learn in our preparation for our next game."

On Providence's Defensive Effectiveness...
"Pride. I am just trying to teach our kids what it is just to man up, pride. We're playing against great players every single night. We wanted to crowd the post and make them make tough two's, we wanted to try and limit their 3 point shooting. Pride."

Down 17-4, Adjustments Providence Made to Get Back into the Game...
"I told our players how much I love them and I told them, "Hey, we're gonna have a run, we're gonna do some things. You know, we just gotta maintain our focus, stick to our game plan, stick to our scouting report and see what happens." Our kids stepped up. It wasn't so much the adjustments we made we just had a game plan and stuck to it."
