Georgetown’s 10 game unbeaten streak was snapped on 01/06/04 by the Eagles of Boston College, who put together a 17-9 scoring run in the final 3 minutes of regulation for the 72-64 win. Darrel Owens scored a career high 20 points to lead Georgetown, while Brandon Bowman added 11.  Ashanti Cook and Gerald Riley each added 9. Courtland Freeman led the Hoyas rebounding effort with 7.

In a half when the Hoyas did not have their shooting touch, (31.6% from the field) the team still managed to take a 1 point lead into the locker room at intermission (27-26). Georgetown accomplished this through rebounding (12 offensive boards to BC’s 5), defense (forcing 8 turnovers while giving up 5) and volume (GU made 15 more attempts than their opponents).

In the second stanza GU’s shooting picked up to 37.5% (12-32) but unfortunately BC’s rocketed to 70.8% (17-24). Georgetown held the lead through the first 15 minutes but with 3:00 on the clock BC found that seemingly anything they threw near the basket went in. Georgetown forced 8 more turnovers while again giving up 5, and outrebounded the Eagles 7-2 on the offensive glass, but ultimately lost by 8.

For the game the Hoyas shot 34.3% while BC hit 57.4% of their shots. Georgetown forced 16 turnovers while giving up 10 and won the battle of the boards 39-38. The Hoyas attempted 70 shots to BC’s 47.
