1/12/2002 Georgetown ended its 4 game losing streak on 1/12/02 by beating Boston College on the road 70-43. The emphatic win over the #16 ranked Eagles stunned the sellout crowd at Conte Forum and the national televison audience watching on CBS. Mike Sweetney led the Hoyas scoring with 15 tallies and led all rebounders with 11 boards on his way to his way to his 9th double-double of the season (15th as a Hoya). The game marked the 10th time Mike has led the team in rebounding and the 8th time he has led the Hoyas’ scoring. Kevin Braswell added 14 tallies, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Gerald Riley chipped in 13 points and Tony Bethel rounded out the quartet in double figures with 11 points. The Hoyas jumped out to an early lead which they never relinguished. Holding BC to 27.6% from the field while shooting at a 57.1% clip, Georgetown led by as many as 15 in the first frame. While the Eagles trimmed 4 from the Hoyas’ lead by the end of the period, their 26 points was stunning for a team averaging 80.4 points per game. In the second half Georgetown scored the first 7 points of a 13-2 to move the game out of BC’s reach. The Hoyas maintained their offense in the second frame, shooting 50% from the field, while continuing to apply defensive pressure, only allowing the Eagles to hit 20% of their shots. For the game GU shot 54% from the field and BC hit 23.7%.
