Austin Freeman Selected to BIG EAST Honor Roll for Third Time this Season
Jan. 17, 2011
WASHINGTON - Senior guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after his performance in a pair of games last week. This is the third time this season that Freeman, the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, has been selected to the honor roll as he was recognized on Nov. 29 and Dec. 27. Georgetown improved to 13-5 overall and 2-4 in the BIG EAST Conference with a 74-65 road win over Rutgers on Saturday. The Hoyas wrap up a two-game swing in the Garden State on Tuesday, Jan. 18, visiting Seton Hall. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. The game will be shown live on MASN, with Bob Picozzi and Jim Spanarkel calling all of the action. The radio call of Rich Chvotkin can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM. Freeman averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists last week as the Hoyas split a pair of games, losing at home to No. 5 Pittsburgh before downing the Scarlet Knights. On Saturday at Rutgers, Freeman scored a game-high 25 points, his 16th game in double figures this season and the eighth time he has scored at least 20 points. He connected on 6-of-12 shots from the field, 4-of-6 from three-point land and all nine of his free throw attempts for 25 points. Freeman also added a career-high nine rebounds and led the team with four assists. He scored 12 points and had two rebounds against Pittsburgh earlier in the week. Freeman's 25 points gave him 1,520 for his career and he needs 20 more points to pass Allen Iverson for 13th all-time in scoring at Georgetown. The senior tri-captain has also hit 167 career three-point field goals and moved past Gerald Riley (2000-04) for third all-time on the Hilltop. He needs 23 more to pass Kevin Braswell for second all-time.
