Georgetown Men's Basketball Hosts St. John's on Saturday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's basketball team will look for the regular season sweep in a rematch against St. John's on Saturday. Tipoff is set for noon at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas, who are coming off a conference loss to No. 1/1 Villanova, now stand at 12-6 overall with a 2-5 record in the BIG EAST.

Saturday's game will be aired live on FS1 with Justin Kutcher handling the play-by-play and Tarik Turner providing color analysis. The game can be heard locally on WNEW 99.1 FM with Rich Chvotkin handling the call.

Hoyas Defeat St. John's, 69-66, in Ewing's Return to Madison Square Garden
With the score tied and 25 seconds left in regulation, junior center Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y./Wings Academy) hit the game-winning 3-pointer as the Georgetown men's basketball team defeated the St. John's University Red Storm, 69-66, at Madison Square Garden. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 12-4 overall with a 2-3 record in BIG EAST Conference play. The game marked Head Coach Patrick Ewing's return to Madison Square Garden, his NBA home for 15 seasons with the New York Knicks.

Against the top-ranked Wildcats on Wednesday, junior center Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y./Wings Acad-emy) led Georgetown with 12 points. Junior forward Marcus Derrickson (Bowie, Md./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds while Govan chipped in six. Derrickson and sophomore Jagan Mosely (Marlboro, N.J./St. Anthony) paced the offense with four assists apiece. Villanova tallied 17 3-pointers in the 88-56 victory.

Govan leads the Hoyas with 17.3 ppg and 11.1 rpg. His 11.1 rpg ranks second in the BIG EAST Conference and is good enough for 11th nationally. Derrickson is second in both categories as he registers 14.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg. In league play, Derrickson is averaging 16.3 ppg through seven contests.

The Red Storm are now 10-9 overall and 0-7 in the BIG EAST, losing their last contest on Wednesday against No. 11 Xavier, 91-74. Justin Simon led the way for the Red Storm with a career-high 28 points, while Shamorie Ponds, SJU's leading scorer this season, finished with 18 points and four assists.

This will be the second meeting of the season between Head Coach Patrick Ewing's Hoyas and Chris Mullin's Red Storm. In the first meeting, Govan hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 25 seconds left in regulation and the Blue & Gray held on for the 69-66 win at Madison Square Garden. This is the 110th meeting between long-time BIG EAST rivals Georgetown and St. Johns with the Red Storm leading the all-time series 57-52.

On Saturday, the Georgetown Athletics Department will provide an "Actual Reality" experience for fans. Fans in the actual reality seating area will be required to check their phones before entering the section. They must pick up their physical tickets from the will-call window where they will have to interact with a human being. Fans will wear name tags to encourage face-to-face communication and will receive a halftime stat sheet. Additionally, fans can write out an actual letter or postcard to send to friends and family. Following Saturday's game, the Hoyas will play the last of their three-game homestand as they host BIG EAST opponent DePaul at Capital One Arena on Wednesday, January 14 at 8:30 p.m. The game will be aired live on FS1 and can be heard locally on 106.7 WJFK-FM.
