South Bend, Ind. - Georgetown University sophomore men's basketball player Otto Porter Jr. (Morley, Mo./ Scott County Central) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon.
Porter Jr. and the Hoyas play Notre Dame in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Monday night at the Joyce Center. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. The game will be shown live on ESPN, with Joe Tessitore and Sean Farnham calling all of the action. The radio call from Rich Chvotkin can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
The Hoyas, who have won two of their last three games, enter the game with a 12-4 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the BIG EAST, while Notre Dame is 15-3 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Porter Jr. averaged 20.5 and 7.0 rebounds in a pair of games last week, connecting on 59.3 percent of his field goals (16-of-27), 50.0 percent of his three-point attempts (4-of-8) and 83.3 percent of his free throws (5-of-6) as the Hoyas split games against Providence and South Florida.
Against Providence last Wednesday, Porter Jr. scored 20 points and had eight rebounds with two steals, leading GU to a 74-65 win at home. He connected on 8-of-13 shots from the floor.
In a loss at USF on Saturday night, Porter hit 8-of-14 shots from the field and scored 21 points, grabbing six rebounds and handing out two assists.
Porter Jr. leads the team in scoring (14.3 points per game) and rebounding (7.6 rebounds per game) and is third on the team in assists (2.6) and leads the team in blocks and steals. He ranks 16th in the BIG EAST in scoring, sixth in the league in rebounds, but also ranks among the league leaders in steals (eighth, 1.9 spg), field goal percentage (11th, 50.3%) and three-point field goal percentage (seventh, 41.7%).
