2/2/2002 Georgetown moved its record to 14-7, 5-4 BE on Saturday, defeating West Virginia 8-12, 1-7 BE by a score of 84-77. Mike Sweetney paced all scorers with 27 tallies. He and Wesley Wilson led the GU board men with 10 caroms each. Wesley also scored 10 tallies for his fourth double-double. Mike’s double-double was his 12th of the season, the 17th of his career. Gerald Riley added 21 to Georgetown’ cause. Georgetown never trailed and led by as many as 14 in the first half, shooting 45.2 % while holding the Mountaineers to 40%. GU also enjoyed a 23-18 rebounding edge. In the second frame the Hoyas built their lead to as many as 22, but relaxed and let West Virginia begin a comeback. The Mountaineers cut the differential to only 5 in the closing seconds, but Kevin Braswell’s free-throws moved the game out of Mountaineer reach. Gale Catlet missed this game because he was on Medical leave. His nephew and assistant Drew Catlet coached the team in his place.
