WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men’s basketball team looks to get back on track in conference play against the Se-ton Hall Pirates in a BIG EAST matchup on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas hold an overall record of 13-10, with a 3-10 mark in conference action.
Saturday’s contest will be shown live on the CBS Sports Network with Andrew Catalon calling the play-by-play, Steve Lappas providing color analysis and Jamie Erdahl as the sideline reporter. The game can be heard locally on 106.7 WJFK-FM The Fan with Rich Chvotkin handling the call.
On Tuesday at Providence, junior center Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y./Wings Academy) led the Hoyas as he tied his career best with 27 points. He was the lone Hoya in double figures as junior forward Marcus Derrickson (Bowie, Md./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) was second on the team in scoring with nine points, while tallying a team-leading nine rebounds. Freshman guard Jamorko Pickett (Washington, D.C./Massanutten Military Academy [Va.]) recorded a squad-best three assists.
For the season, Govan leads the Hoyas with 17.0 ppg and 10.1 rpg which ranks second in the BIG EAST. Derrickson is second on the team in both categories as he is registering 15.5 ppg and 7.7 rpg. In league play, both Govan and Derrickson are among the top five in rpg. The Hoyas lead the BIG EAST in offensive rebounds, averaging 39.7 rpg.
Seton Hall holds a 17-7 overall record with a 6-5 conference mark. On Wednesday, the Pirates fell at home to Marquette, 88-85. Desi Rodriguez led the team with 21 points and four assists, while Myles Powell finished with 18 points and four rebounds. Rodriguez leads the Pirates with 17.6 ppg, while Angel Delgado leads the team and the BIG EAST with 11.8 rpg.
This is the 105th meeting between the Hoyas and Seton Hall, with Georgetown leading the series, 57-47. The last matchup between the two came earlier this season, when the then-No. 13/15 Pirates defeated the Hoyas, 74-61 in Newark, New Jersey. Derrickson recorded his third double-double of the season with team bests of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Following Saturday’s game, Georgetown will head to Indianapolis on February 13, to face BIG EAST opponent Butler. The game can be watched live on the CBS Sports Network and heard locally on 99.1 WNEW-FM with Rich Chvotkin handling the call.
