WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore men's basketball player Otto Porter Jr. (Morley, Mo./Scott County Central) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday morning. It is the fifth time this season Porter Jr. has been recognized by the BIG EAST.
Georgetown hosts BIG EAST Conference rival Marquette at Verizon Center as part of ESPN's Big Monday on February 11. Tipoff at Verizon Center is slated for 7 p.m., with Sean McDonough, Jay Bilas and Bill Raftery calling all of the action. The game can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
The Hoyas improved to 17-4 overall and 7-3 in the BIG EAST with a 69-63 win at Rutgers on Saturday. Georgetown is ranked No. 15 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 15 in the USA Today Coaches poll.
In Saturday's win at Rutgers, Porter recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds, leading four players in double figures.
Porter Jr. leads the team in scoring (15.0 points per game) and rebounding (8.0 rebounds per game) and is third on the team in assists (2.4) and leads the team in blocks (21) and steals (36).
He ranks tied for 11th in the BIG EAST in scoring, third in the league in rebounds, but also ranks among the league leaders in field goal percentage (ninth, 51.3%), three-point field goal percentage (fourth, 45.5%), steals (seventh, 1.80 spg), blocked shots (T15th, 1.05 bpg) and defensive rebounds (2nd, 6.15 rpg).
In BIG EAST games, Porter Jr. is tied for fifth in the league in scoring, averaging 16.8 points per game.
