WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore men's basketball player Otto Porter Jr. (Morley, Mo./Scott County Central) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday. It is the first time Porter Jr. has ever been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and it is the sixth time he has been recognized by the league this season, as he was named to the league's weekly honor roll five times.

Porter Jr. helped the Hoyas to a pair of wins last week, beating then-No. 18 Marquette, 63-55, and helping the team to an impressive road win at Cincinnati on Friday night, 62-55.

The wins extended Georgetown's win streak to seven games, the longest current streak in the BIG EAST Conference, as the team improved to 19-4 overall and 9-3 in league play, tied for first place. The seven-game win streak is the longest against conference opponents for Georgetown since the 2006-07 season.

Georgetown is ranked No. 11 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches' poll.

In a 2-0 week for the Hoyas, Porter Jr. averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 43.5 percent from the floor (10-of-23) and 100% from the free throw line, connecting on 14-of-14 attempts. He led the Hoyas to a 63-55 win over then-No. 18 Marquette with 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. In a big road win at Cincinnati on Friday night, Porter Jr. scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, hitting all seven of his free throw attempts.

Overall this season, Porter Jr. leads the team in scoring and rebounding, with 15.3 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game. He is also third on the team in assists (2.34 apg), leads the team in steals (1.67 spg) and is second in blocked shots (21). He ranks 10th in the league in scoring, third in the league in rebounding, ninth in field goal percentage (50.4%), seventh in steals, second in three-point field goal percentage (44.4%) and second in defensive rebounds per game (6.00 rpg).

Against BIG EAST opponents, Porter Jr. is averaging 17.1 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor (67-of-134) and 45.0 percent from three-point land (18-of-40) and 81.5 percent from the free throw line (53-of-65).

The Hoyas are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 20, hosting BIG EAST Conference rival DePaul (11-14, 2-10) at Verizon Center. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. The game will be shown live on MASN with Mike Corey and Bob Wenzel calling all of the action. Rich Chvotkin's radio call can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
