WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore men's basketball player D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Oak Hill),was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. This is the fifth time this season that Smith-Rivera has been selected to the honor roll.
The Hoyas had a four-game win streak end on Sunday night in a loss at St. John's and are now 15-10 overall and 6-7 in the BIG EAST Conference.
Smith-Rivera averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Hoyas, including an 83-71 win over Providence last Monday at home. In two games, the sophomore guard shot 61.9 percent from the floor (13-of-21) and was 88.9 percent from the free throw line (8-of-9).
In the Providence win on Monday, Smith-Rivera scored 22 points, had five rebounds and five assists to lead the Hoyas. It was his fifth game with at least 20 points this season. He scored 15 points and had three assists on Sunday night.
Overall this season, Smith-Rivera leads the Hoyas in scoring with 17.0 points per game, which ranks fourth in the BIG EAST Conference. He is second on the team with 2.8 assists, third on the team with 4.7 rebounds and leads the team with 1.2 steals per game. In BIG EAST games, he is averaging 18.0 points per game.
Georgetown continues its swing through the New York Metropolitan area on Thursday, Feb. 20, visiting Seton Hall. Tip-off at the Prudential Center is slated for 9 p.m. The game will be shown live on CBS Sports Network with Tom McCarthy and Steve Lappas calling all of the action and can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
