Hoyas Fall No. 3 Pittsburgh 58-68

2/24/2004

Check out the Highlights of the Game.

Georgetown (13-11, 4-9) lost a 58-68 final to #3 ranked Pittsburgh (25-2, 11-2) at home on 2/24/04.  Gerald Riley led the Hoyas’ scoring with 25 points. Ashanti Cook contributed 15 tallies and Brandon Bowman just missed a double-double, scoring 10 points and leading GU’s rebounding effort with 9 caroms.

In the low scoring first frame the Hoyas led by as many as 13. Forcing 14 turnovers and shooting 46.2%, Georgetown took an 8 point lead into the locker room at intermission 28-20. The 20 points were the fewest Pittsburgh had scored in a half this season.

In the second stanza the Panthers improved their accuracy from the field to 60% and chipped away at the Hoya lead until, at 08:24 a Troutman tip in gave the visitors the lead. This was followed with a 16-3 scoring spree that saw the Panthers up 12 with 02:15 remaining. Rather than throw in the towel, the Hoyas scored seven unanswered to reduce the deficit to 5 with 01:28 on the clock.  Pittsburgh made it 7, Georgetown made it 5, Pitt again made it 7 and with 00:46 remaining the Hoyas again cut it to 5, but, forced to foul to get the ball back, the Hoyas eventually fell by 10, 58-68.

For the game the Hoyas forced 23 turnovers while committing 10, but only made 6 of 10 from the stripe while Pittsburgh made 22 of 33.
