No. 11 Georgetown Hits Road for Big Monday Meeting at West Virginia

The Georgetown University men's basketball team hit the road on Sunday, traveling to West Virginia for a Big Monday matchup with the Mountaineers on March 1 at the WVU Coliseum. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the game will be shown live on ESPN, with Sean McDonough, Jay Bilas and Bill Raftery calling all of the action.

Georgetown enters today's game with a 19-8 overall record and a 9-7 mark in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas are coming off a 78-64 home loss to Notre Dame.

Junior guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) leads the team in scoring with 17.0 points per game, including 19.3 points against BIG EAST opponents. Freeman passed the 1,000-point plateau for his career against Villanova and ranks tied for 31st all-time in scoring with 1,112 points. Freeman had a streak of 20-straight games in double figures end against Notre Dame and has 10 games this season with at least 20 points. Freeman is shooting 57.1 percent from the floor against the BIG EAST, including 51.4 percent from three-point land.

Sophomore center Greg Monroe (New Orleans, La./Helen Cox) has been recognized by the BIG EAST four times this season, being named Player of the Week once and selected to the Honor Roll three times. Monroe is second on the team in scoring with 15.7 points per game (15.6 in league games) and leads the team with 9.4 rebounds per game. Monroe, who has 10 double-doubles this season, scored 12 points and had 12 assists in the win at Providence.

Freeman and fellow junior guard Chris Wright (Bowie, Md./St. John's College HS) have shared some of the scoring load as well. Wright is third on the team in scoring with 13.9 points (13.4 in BIG EAST games) and leads the team with 3.9 assists per game.

The Hoyas junior backcourt duo of Freeman and Wright has combined to average 30.9 points per game, 6.3 assists and 6.3 rebounds, and is shooting 51.1 percent from the floor (301-of-589), 40.8 percent (84-of-206) and 80.0 percent of their free throws (148-of-185).

Sophomore guard Jason Clark (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) is fourth on the team with 10.5 points per game and third with 3.7 rebounds. Junior forward Julian Vaughn (Vienna, Va./Oak Hill Academy), who scored a career-high 19 points at Providence, is fifth on the team with 8.1 points and second on the team with 4.6 rebounds.

Freshman guard Hollis Thompson (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) is averaging 4.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per games. In the last eight games, Thompson is averaging 6.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Freshman forward Jerrelle Benimon (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) has averaged 1.4 points and 2.2 rebounds in 15.1 minutes per game the last 10 games.

Tonight's game with West Virginia will be the 48th all-time meeting between the schools. Georgetown leads the head-to-head series, 26-21. The Hoyas have won three of the last four games in the series. West Virginia won last year's game, 75-58, at Verizon Center.
