Hoyas Drop 7th Straight to Notre Dame

3/4/2004

Georgetown University (13-13, 4-11) lost a 48-61 final at Notre Dame (15-11, 8-7) on 3/5/04. Brandon Bowman posted his second consecutive double-double (career fifth) as he led the Hoyas’ scoring with 17 points and all rebounders with 15 boards. The 15 rebounds represents a new career high for Brandon. Gerald Riley added 10 tallies and pulled down 6 caroms, as did Ashanti Cook who scored 9.

In the first frame the Hoyas rebounded well, pulling down 5 more offensive boards than the home standing Irish and 6 more rebounds overall, but only shot 21.9% from the field. ND (which shot 33.3%) took a 14 point lead into the locker room at intermission 16-30.

In the second half the Hoyas improved their shooting accuracy to 34.4%, continued to dominate the offensive glass and limited turnovers to 2, but were unable to erase the first half deficit. Notre Dame’s increase in offensive efficiency and a timely applications of treys answered every move the Hoyas made to climb out of the 1st half doldrums.

For the game the Hoyas won the battle of the boards 48-39 (GU 14 offensive + 34 defensive, ND 4 offensive +35 defensive). GU shot 28.1% to ND’s 37.5% from the field.
