WASHINGTON - Georgetown plays its final game of the regular season on Saturday, March 8 visiting Villanova for the second meeting of the season between the teams. Tip-off at Wachovia Center is slated for 2 p.m.
Georgetown is coming off an impressive 75-63 win over Creighton on Tuesday in the Nation's Capital. It was the team's third win over a ranked team this season.
The game will be shown live on Fox Sports 1 with Gus Johnson and Bill Raftery calling all of the action and can be heard locally on Sports Talk 570 AM.
The Hoyas have played one of the nation's toughest schedules this season and are ranked No. 13 by Strength of Schedule according to WarrenNolan.com. The Hoyas have five wins against top-50 ranked teams this season, tied for the most in the BIG EAST (with Creighton) and more than 14 teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25. The Hoyas enter the game with a 17-12 overall record and an 8-9 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
In the Creighton win, sophomore guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera recorded his first career double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while senior guard Markel Starks scored 17 points and handed out a career-high 11 assists ... Junior forward Mikael Hopkins added 10 points, five rebounds and tied a career-high with five blocks, while junior forward Jabril Trawick chipped in 13 points and four rebounds.
Overall this season, Starks leads the team in scoring with 17.0 points per game and leads the team with 4.1 assists per game ... He ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring, is fifth in the league in assists and fifth in free throw percentage (85.3%)... Overall this season, he has played 91.6 percent of the team's minutes (1072-of-1170) played.
Sophomore guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, is second on the team with 16.9 points per game, which ranks sixth in the BIG EAST Conference ... He is second on the team with 2.8 assists, third on the team with 4.8 rebounds and leads the team with 1.2 steals per game ... In BIG EAST games, he is averaging 17.6 points per game. Smith-Rivera, who has six games with at least 20 points this season, also ranks among the league leaders in free throw percentage (3rd, 86.3%), steals (9th, 1.2), three-point field goal percentage (8th, 39.6%), three-point field goals made (9th, 1.9) and minutes played (5th, 35.1).
GU's backcourt of Starks and Smith-Rivera is averaging 33.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 2.1 steals ... They have combined to score 47.7 percent of Georgetown's total points this season (983 of 2,062) ... Together, they are shooting 43.1 percent from the floor (313-of-727), 35.6 percent from three-point land and (103-of-289) and 85.8 percent from the free throw line (254-of-296).
