March 15, 2009 WASHINGTON, D.C. - Complete Bracket in PDF Format
The Georgetown University men's basketball was selected to play in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), announced by officials on Sunday evening. The Hoyas will play a first round game at Baylor on Wednesday, March 18. The game will air live on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. ET. This is the fifth-straight year the Hoyas have advanced to play in the postseason under Head Coach John Thompson III, who has previously guided the Blue and Gray to one NIT and three-straight NCAA Tournaments. Georgetown has appeared in the NIT 10 times prior to this season. The Hoyas have an all-time record of 14-11 in the NIT. Most recently, GU appeared in the NIT during the 2004-05 season, advancing to the third round during Thompson's first season on the Hilltop. This will be the first-ever meeting between Georgetown and Baylor. The Hoyas have played only five games all-time against teams from the Big 12 Conference, holding a 4-1 advantage in those meetings. The last meeting with a Big 12 school was a 98-90 Hoya win over Texas Tech during the 1995-96 NCAA Tournament. The winner of the Georgetown-Baylor game will play the winner of another first round game between Duquesne and Virginia Tech. That game will be played between March 19, 20, 21 or 23. Tickets are now on sale through the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth. Tickets can be purchased online through www.baylorbears.com.
