The Georgetown University Men?s Tennis Team picked up their first dual match victory of the spring season yesterday with a 6-1 win at George Mason.
The Hoyas started the day by sweeping all three of the doubles matches and earning the doubles point. At first doubles, junior Dennis Cravedi (Bethesda, Md. / Georgetown Prep) and freshman Ryan Peisel (Savannah, Ga. / Savannah Country Day) combined for an 8-5 win over the Patriots? Ballester and Dufils. The second doubles tandem of senior Marc Lohser (Woodbury, N.Y. / Syosset) and freshman Eric Conrad (Gloucester, Mass.) pulled out an 8-6 victory over GMU?s Bainton and Akalin, while Hoyas? Chris Belelieu (Sr., Hinsdale, Ill. / Dr. Phillips) and Chad Mihalick (So., Sammamish, Wash.) cruised to an 8-2 win at third doubles.
With a 1-0 lead after the doubles competition, the Hoyas went to work in singles, winning five of the six matches to secure their victory. At #2 singles, Lohser dropped the first set to Bainton but rallied to win the next two and the match, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. The rest of the Hoyas following Lohser did not drop a set and lost a mere 15 games between them, resulting in four wins. At third singles, Belelieu defeated Dufils, 6-2, 6-4, while at fourth singles Conrad defeated Akalin, 6-1, 6-2. Peisel racked up the most lopsided victory of the day, winning at fifth singles 6-1, 6-0; and Chad Mihalick defeated GMU?s Mark Hughes at sixth singles, 6-4, 6-1, to round out the Hoya win.
The Hoyas looks to build on their win when they travel to Connecticut on Saturday, April 6, for a BIG EAST showdown with the Huskies. First serve is at noon.
