The National Association of Basketball Coaches has named Coach John Thompson III 2007 National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Coach of the Year. Thompson, in his third year at Georgetown, followed a sweet 16 appearance in 2006 with a BIG EAST regular season Championship, a BIG EAST Tournament Championship and an NCAA East Regional Championship. The return to the Final Four was Georgetown's 1st since 1985 when Hall of Fame Coach John Thompson Jr. mentored the Hoyas. Georgetown compiled a 30-7 record for the 2007 season and was 19-2 in their last 21 games.

Thompson Highlights
• Named the 2007 National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Coach of the Year

• Named the 2006 winner of the Fritz Pollard Award as the Black Coaches Association's Male Coach of the Year

• Finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award all three years at Georgetown

• Defeated 9 top 25 teams over his tenure at Georgetown

• Amassed a record of 70-27 at GU

• Has a record of 138-71 in his seven years as a head coach

• Has won four league championships and reached the postseason six times in his first seven years as a head coach

• Coached four All-Americans, four league Players of the Year, and three league Rookies of the Year

• Led Princeton to the 2001 Ivy League title and the NCAA tournament in his first season as a head coach

• In five seasons as an assistant coach at Princeton, won three Ivy League championships and made five consecutive postseason appearances

• Helped coach Princeton to a Top 10 national ranking in 1997-98 and Top 25 rankings in back-to-back years

•As a player, ranks third on Princeton's all-time assist list with 358

• While a captain at Princeton earned the B.F. Bunn MVP Award Trophy for his contribution to Princeton basketball
