Former Basketball All-American Jeff Green to Sign Autographs Prior to Bethesda Big Train Baseball Game

June 2, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Former Georgetown men's basketball All-American Jeff Green will sign autographs prior to the Bethesda Big Train's baseball game against the College Park Bombers on Saturday, June 6 at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md.

Green, who finished his second year with the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association, will be on hand to sign autographs for fans beginning at 6:15 p.m. First pitch for the Big Train game is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Green helped lead Georgetown to a 30-7 record, the 2007 NCAA Final Four and to the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament championships during the 2006-07 season. He averaged 14.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists and was named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Year and was the BIG EAST Tournament's Most Valuable Player. Following his junior year, he was the No. 5 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft and appeared in the league's Rookie Challenge during All-Star weekend.

Green, who averaged 16.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game during the 2008-09 season, was recently selected to be among a group of 24 players invited to take part in USA Basketball's minicamp in Las Vegas from July 22-25. Participating players will be candidates for the team that plays in the World Championships in Turkey in 2001 and the 2012 London Olympics.

The Bethesda Big Train summer baseball team began play in the Clark Griffith League in 1999 and are now members of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League. The league began in 2005 with six teams and now includes eight teams from Baltimore to Bethesda and Rockville to College Park and into Virginia, with teams in Alexandria and Herndon. The wood-bat baseball league has featured current major leaguers such as Mark Teixeira, John Maine and Gavin Floyd.
