WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Men's Basketball Coach John Thompson III announced today that junior forward Greg Whittington (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) will be sidelined after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

"Greg will return when he is 100 percent healthy," Thompson said. "I feel for Greg because he's worked extremely hard to prepare for the coming season, on and off the court. I'm confident this is just another setback that in the end will make him even stronger. At this point, there is no specific timetable for his return."

Whittington, a 6-8 forward, appeared in 13 games last season and was second on the team in scoring with 12.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He appeared in only two BIG EAST games as Georgetown finished with a 25-7 overall record and posted a 14-4 record to win the BIG EAST Championship.
