Washington DC… Georgetown University Men’s Basketball Head Coach Craig Esherick
announced today that Jaren Jackson has been hired as an assistant coach. Jackson, a four
year letterman at Georgetown, graduated in 1989. After graduation Jaren enjoyed a
storied career in the NBA, playing for eight teams over 12 years, highlighted by a World
Championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 1999.
“Jaren brings us a wealth of experience. Not only is he one of a very select few to have
won an NBA championship, but he has been exposed to a wide range of coaching
theories. Playing in the NBA over 12 years for eight different teams means not only that
he has seen a lot, but that he has developed the personal discipline to adjust to any
situation” Coach Esherick said. “Additionally, Jaren is a tremendously perceptive and
intelligent individual. He was the valedictorian for his high school and was an excellent
student when he was here. Jaren has first hand experience with achieving academic and
athletic success at Georgetown. He has the intelligence and experience to make a real
contribution to the coaching staff.”
Jackson played in 130 games over his career at Georgetown, starting every contest as a
senior and averaging better than 16 minutes per outing. During his senior season he
averaged 12.3 point and 5.3 rebounds, more than doubling his previous career averages.
Jaren still ranks on Georgetown’s Career Steals Leader list.
Starting with the New Jersey Nets (89-90), Jaren played for: the Golden State Warriors
(91-92); the Los Angeles Clippers (92-93); the Portland Trailblazers (93-94); the
Philadelphia 76ers (94-95); the Houston Rockets (95-96); the Washington Bullets (96-97)
and the San Antonio Spurs (97-01).
