BIG EAST Announces Men's Basketball Conference Matchups for 2012-13 Season

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's basketball team will host five conference opponents that appeared in the postseason at Verizon Center and will play 11 conference games against teams that advanced to the postseason as the BIG EAST Conference announced league matchups for the 2012-13 season on Thursday afternoon.
The 2011-12 season will mark the sixth year the BIG EAST Conference features an 18-game league schedule. Each team will play 10 opponents once and four teams twice.
The Hoyas will play home-and-home series against NCAA Tournament participants Marquette (27-8) and Syracuse (34-3), as well as two games against Rutgers and St. John's.
Other home games include an appearance by NCAA Finalist Louisville (30-10), College Basketball Invitational champion Pittsburgh (22-17), NIT participant Seton Hall (21-13).and games against DePaul and Providence.
Georgetown's nine-game BIG EAST road schedule includes six games against teams that played in the NCAA Tournament. In addition to away games against Marquette and Syracuse, the Hoyas will visit NCAA Tournament teams including Cincinnati (26-11), Connecticut (20-14), Notre Dame (22-12) and USF (22-14). Other road games include contests at Rutgers, St. John's and Villanova.

Georgetown finished the 2011-12 season with a 24-9 overall record, its third-straight NCAA Tournament and a tie for fourth place in the BIG EAST Conference. The Hoyas have reached the NCAA Tournament in six of the last eight years and played in the postseason every season under Head Coach John Thompson III, including two NIT appearances. Georgetown, picked to finish in 10th place in the BIG EAST, posted a 12-6 league record on the way to earning a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament's Midwest Regional.
