WASHINGTON - Play Ball! Georgetown University Head Men's Basketball Coach John Thompson III will be featured in a commercial on Fox on Tuesday night, July 16, during the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

Thompson was among a group of sports celebrities who will appear in the 90-second commercial, which is being done to help promote Fox Sports 1, which launches on Aug. 17.
Other athletes and coaches filmed for the commercial included Detroit Tigers standout Miguel Cabrera, NASCAR drivers Jeff Gordon and Kasey Kahne, Team USA women's soccer standout Alex Morgan, Southern Cal head football coach Lane Kiffen football, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco and San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis, as well as Georges St. Pierre of the UFC and boxer Canelo Alvarez.
"The narrative is that "America's New Sports Network is coming and it's Time for Sports to be Fun Again," said Bill Battin, Senior Vice President of On-Air Marketing for Fox Sports Media Group. "It's not comedy or whimsical, but this is why sports are so much a part of us. It's a triumphant and celebratory spot that I think all of the viewers will really enjoy."
Georgetown finished the 2012-13 season with a 25-7 record and earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Hoyas won a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and were the No. 1 seed in the tournament after posting a 14-4 record in league play. The Hoyas were ranked No. 8 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches' poll and closed out the regular season with 12 wins in 13 games. The Hoyas are one of only four schools in the country to be ranked in the Associated Press top-10 at least once in each of the last seven seasons and Georgetown is also ranked fifth nationally in Associated Press top-25 poll appearances (116) since January 2006.
