Former Georgetown Basketball Manager Michael Gilroy Named Assistant Coach at Pfeiffer University
July 27, 2010
WASHINGTON - Former Georgetown University men's basketball manager Michael Gilroy has been named an assistant women's basketball coach at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina, it was announced today. "I am extremely excited to welcome Mike to the Lady Falcons basketball program" Pfeiffer Head Coach Jill Thomas said. "Mike comes from a great basketball background. His excitement in wanting to help Pfeiffer build a top-notch program, along with his knowledge in recruiting and player development, really matches what I was looking for in an assistant coach." Gilroy joins the Division II Lady Falcons program after a 13-15 overall record last year, including a 13-9 record in conference play. "It's a chance to coach full-time and I'm getting to focus on basketball, which I know and I love," Gilroy said from the road, as he drove back to North Carolina while on a recruiting trip to the District. "I'll get a chance to do everything and I'm really excited for the opportunity." Gilroy spent three years with the men's basketball team at Georgetown (2000-03). He helped the Hoyas with all on-floor activities and game preparation, individual workouts and prepped all travel arrangements during the season. Georgetown advanced to the Championship Game of the National Invitation Tournament in 2003 and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2002. "Working at Georgetown showed me the ropes of how collegiate sports work," Gilroy said. "Everything I did there helped me and it was a huge stepping stone. Just seeing the day-to-day operations, how they prepared for practice and for games, how they prepared for road trips, it has all led me here." Gilroy joins Pfeiffer after spending quality time with AAU basketball programs in Virginia and coaching at George Mason High School in Falls Church, Va. Gilroy graduated from Georgetown in 2003 with a bachelor of science in finance.
