WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's basketball team appeared at No. 12 in the ESPN.com 50 in 50 rankings, which rates the top programs in college basketball over the last 50 years.
ESPN.com began announcing its top-50 last week, using a ratings system devised by its Stats & Information Group. Points were awarded to schools based on conference titles, conference tournament titles, win percentage, No. 1 seeds, NCAA Tournament bids, NCAA Tournament first round wins as well as appearances in the Sweet 16, the Elite Eight, the Final Four and, of course, national titles. Other factors included appearances in the NIT, as well as All-Americans, NBA top-10 picks and factors such as television bans that could take away points.

The review of Georgetown includes the all-time "50 in 50" starting five, which is made up of guards Sleepy Floyd and Allen Iverson, forwards Reggie Williams and Alonzo Mourning (who is listed as forward/center) and center Patrick Ewing.
The top options off the bench included Jeff Green, Mike Sweetney and Craig Shelton.
The review also included their selection as the all-time coach - John Thompson, Jr. - and a top three rating of the best teams in program history.
