Hoyas Announce 2001-2002 Schedule

WASHINGTON DC---Eleven games on national television (3 on CBS, 4 on ESPN, 3 on ESPN2 and 1 on TBS) and 18 contests with opponents who appeared in post season tournaments last season highlight the 2001-2002 Georgetown University Men's Basketball schedule.

The Hoyas' first television appearance of the season on ESPN will be the November 19 meeting with Georgia (NCAA) in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts. On December 6, when the Hoyas travel to Columbia, South Carolina (NIT) to face the Gamecocks, ESPN will broadcast the action. ESPN will cover Georgetown’s conference games on the road at Notre Dame (20-10 NCAA) on January 21, and at the MCI center with Syracuse (25-9 NCAA) on January 28.

ESPN2 will carry the Hoyas’ road games at Rutgers on January 5, and at Seton Hall (16-15 NIT) on February 12 as well. “The Deuce” will also carry the Hoyas’ home game vs. BIG EAST cross-divisional opponent Connecticut (20-12 NIT) on February 19.

CBS will broadcast the Hoyas' road games on December 29 from UCLA (NCAA), on January 12 from cross-divisional opponent Boston College (27-5 NCAA) and on February 24 from Syracuse (25-9 NCAA).

TBS will broadcast Georgetown Basketball for the first time on December 20, when the Hoyas host Virginia (NCAA) at the MCI Center as part of the John Thompson Classic.

GU’s home slate with BIG EAST opponents will also include West Division rivals Seton Hall (16-15 NIT) on January 16, West Virginia (17-12, NIT) on February 2, Notre Dame (20-10 NCAA) on February 9, and Rutgers on March 2. The Hoyas will also host cross-divisional opponent Miami (16-13, NIT) on January 2.

The Big East schedule of away games for the Hoyas will include Seton Hall (16-15 NIT) on January 16, Pittsburgh (19-14, NIT) on January 19, Pittsburgh (19-14 NIT) again on January 26, and West Virginia (17-12 NIT) on February 27. The Hoyas will travel to face BIG EAST cross-divisional opponent Villanova (18-13 NIT) on February 16.

Georgetown's first home game will take place on November 16 when the Hoyas face the Saints of Marymount University at McDonough Arena. McDonough will also be the site of the Coastal Carolina contest on November 21, the Bethune-Cookman game on November 28, and the Towson game on November 24, which will be the first game in the John Thompson Classic.

The MCI Center will play host to the November 26 game with the Tigers of Grambling , the December 1 meeting with the Cougars of Houston, the December 10 contest with the Bears of Morgan State and the December 17 meeting with the Bison of Howard.

This year Georgetown games will be carried by WTEM with the "Voice of the Hoyas", Rich Chvotkin at the mike.
